Invisible

Wet

Cold

Freezing

Barely making it

Am I Living?

No

Existing

Maybe

This isn’t what I

Hoped,

Envisioned,

Dreamed for

My life

Kids never believe

They’ll end up this way

I NEVER believed

I would

But here I am

People pass by me

In the streets

Pretending

I’m invisible

It’s easier that way

For them

I’m no longer

Human

Or a

Sister,

Daughter,

Cousin,

Friend

If I were

They couldn’t live in

The denial

That this can happen

To people like

Them.

Sometimes we grow cold and calloused to people who we don’t know or understand. Some believe homeless individuals living on the streets “deserve” to be there. I’ve heard several people make accusations that they must be “lazy”. Do you know that persons story? Until you do, you have no right to assume why he or she ended up where they are. Have compassion on others, truly love one another, give back, listen to people’s stories. It can make a difference in how you see the world and how you ultimately interact with others in this world.
